  A lot of players might have already noticed that materia extraction has been a quite great thing since Final Fantasy XIV re-released with A Realm Reborn, however, a recent change has made it more beneficial than ever. As of patch 5.2, you will no longer destroy a piece of equipment if you are ready to extract materia from it again, what's more, you even can pull the stat-boosting orbs from the high-end gear.

  As long as the equipment reaches 100% spirit bond, then that means you can extract materia from it.

  Once a Final Fantasy XIV item becomes totally spirit bound to your very own character now you can pull materia out of it without destroying it. And all you can do is just click X/ press Square/ right-click on the item to bring up the sub-command menu and then choose Extract Materia. You will be asked to confirm this selection, and after that, you extract the materia from the item its spirit bond will reset to 1%.

  Please keep in mind that do not confuse this with Retrieve Materia; that pulls materia you have slotted into your gear out, with a much greater opportunity to fail the much higher the grade. And Extract Materia will be grayed out if the spirit bond is not at 100%, therefore, you can not accidentally reset the gear. From very early testing, it seems that materia grade is determined by the item level of the equipment you are now pulling it from, with 450 gear creating grade seven materia and 460 gear giving grade eight. And of course, the materia type is also chosen by the type of equipment, therefore, as you know, the Machinist gear will give out aim materia, and Warrior armor will generate tenacity materia.

  Last but not least, please keep an eye on your gear and then extract material whenever it reaches the max spirit bond. By doing so and you will find yourself saving massive Final Fantasy XIV Gil on materia.
