Square Enix has confirmed the name of the forthcoming PATCH 2.4 for the popular FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn online game.Dreams of Ice (Patch 2.4) .It will be available for PC, PS3 and PS4, though a release date has not been confirmed as of yet.

The conflict at the heart of Dreams of Ice lies within the mysterious land of Eorzea. A dark plot, known as the Calamity, has been undertaken there and the Warriors of Light must band together with Alphinaud, the Scion of the Seventh Dawn to stop it. One of the main enemies of the story seems to be a creature known as Shiva, Lady of Frost, who is at the center of the new trailer. Not much is known about her other than that she emerged from the mountains of Coerthas and was summoned by a mysterious character.

An anticipated feature of this patch, revealed this summer, is the introduction of a new player class: the rogue. Rogues are experts with knives and daggers and are more than simple criminals. They often follow a Robin Hood-esque vigilante lifestyle of stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. A popular hangout for them is the buccaneer town of Limsa Lominsa.

Ninjas are offshoots of the rogue class and highly trained warriors from the far-East. They are able to manipulate energy from the land and air, as well as from living things. They can use this energy to use a wide array of deadly attacks.

Dungeons also feature prominently in Dreams of Ice. There are three in total - Snowcloak, Sastasha, and The Sunken Temple of Qarn - all three of which take place in vastly different locales. Snowcloak, a new dungeon, is set in an arena of near-impassible ice tunnels, Sastasha takes place deep in the sea caverns of the Sastasha Seagrot, and The Sunken Temple of Qarn is set in a creepy ancient ruined temple. These latter dungeons have been ungraded with “hard” difficulties.

The most progressive feature of Dreams of Ice is its inclusion of same-sex marriage - an addition which inspired a pride parade, known as Pixel Pride, back in July. Not only will the patch allow same-sex marriage, but it will also allow marriage between any two characters, regardless of race or nation.

The release date for Dreams of Ice is still unknown. Stay tuned to FFXIV4GIL.COM as new details about the patch are revealed.
